~ BEWARE OF SPOILERS ~
You’re about to get the only recap you need of the past two nights of mandatory television watching from someone who paid minimal attention to the Super Bowl and fell asleep before the ending, and also someone who hung on almost every word of The Bachelor besides that horrible group date with the pigs. Let’s go.
FIRST. SUPER BOWL SUNDAY.
Everyone thought the team with the prettier colors was going to win because they’ve been practically undefeated.
The Broncos led for the whole game because their defense was NASTY.
Beyonce, Bruno Mars, and Coldplay (?) were the poorly mismatched three Musketeers of the halftime show.
Peyton Manning is old but cute, he took home his second Super Bowl Ring and was super elusive when asked if he’s going to be hanging up his cleats after this game.
#speculation
HIGHLIGHTS:
Lady Gaga’s National Anthem in her Hunger Games ensemble which made everyone scratch their heads and wonder how relevant she still is.
Beyonce slaying vocals and choreography, which is honestly to be expected at this point.
Those giant trippy flowers Coldplay used for their set of old, irrelevant songs were really pretty.
Apparently there was a really bad missed field goal but I missed it probably because I was scrolling throughInstagram.
DISAPPOINTMENTS:
The game wasn’t close enough to have me on the edge of my seat, which is why I barely watched it.
Also, no sad horse commercial for Budweiser this year.
Aaaaaaaaaaand that’s about it!
NOW ONTO THE BACHELOR.
I love The Bachelor in the sick obsessed way that I want all of my friends and family members to sit around in the living room watching it with me and hashing out every single detail. Unfortunately, none of them will do that (even though my dad does secretly love this show), so I force my boyfriend to watch it with me. HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED.
Rose ceremony from last weeks cliff hanger and Ben says goodbye to Jennifer who was this dark brunette mystery and who knows if Ben ever even talked to her.
Leah is convinced she’s going to get a one on one date. She’s like THE ONLY ONE (not really) who hasn’t gotten one on one time. She’s feeling quite entitled when the card comes.
LEAH’S SLOW BUT SURE SELF DESTRUCTION BEGINS NOW.
Caila (I can never spell this girls name right on the first try) gets the date. Ben comes to get her and Leah’s body language is livid. Then she cries.
Leah’s eyebrows are so beautiful that I can’t help but side with her on this one. Seems like Ben is only keeping her as filler.
Ben and Caila have a fishing date that we can’t really see because the editing likes to cut between Ben fondling Caila’s hips to Leah crying.
It’s super artsy!
CAILA IS CONFUSED/CONFUSING.
Ben tells her to open up and she says no.
Then she tells Ben in her whispery voice with her super thick and luscious horse hair that she worries she might break his heart.
RED FLAGS EVERYWHERE. But it turns Ben on. He likes that she’s confusing.
Hopefully he’ll also like when she pulls a Becca and decide she doesn’t actually like him in the final 2.
THERE’S AN AWKWARD DATE WITH PIGS.
I’ll be totally honest, I paid almost no attention to the group date where they swam with pigs (I think???) and Leah cried more.
Did Ben really think that bringing a bunch of attention seeking woman to a pig island to swim around half naked with them was going to be anything besides horrifyingly awkward?? There were no funny icebreakers or activities to give them a fake sense of purpose on this date. So they waded around and cried and side-eyed each other with some pigs.
The major highlight of this group date was Ben’s awkwardly honest conversation with Jojo (my freaking favorite) where he basically tells her “she’s the only one who gets it”, whatever it is. Engaging in polygamy for all of America to see and maybe how tense and weird that is? It seems like such a genuine and unscripted conversation and I just think Jojo is the most down-to-earth chick of this season. She seems like the kind of girl everyone would be BFFs with in their college dorm because she’d be the wildest but also the easiest to talk to at 3am in the kitchen after the bar while still drunk and making a giant pot of pasta. I don’t know, am I the only one catching that vibe?
TWO ON ONE DATES ARE FUN… NOT.
The most pointless two on one date ever took place in a boat in a hurricane and then on an island in a hurricane where Ben sat in the sand between Emily (or Hayley?) and Olivia, talked to them each separately for about five minutes, then walked Olivia away WITH THE ROSE JUST TO TEASE HER and said “I’m sorry, I can’t give you this rose”. I’m guessing the producers decided enough was enough and he was allowed to send her home. She cried. I’m honestly going to miss the crazy things she’d say about her and Ben’s epic love story but it’s for the best. Olivia honestly reminds me of this girl I knew in college which made it weird to watch her anyways…
We know almost nothing about Emily (Hayley?) but Ben wants to continue their story and see where it goes. Probably just to the end of the next rose ceremony.
LEAH TALKS SHIT.
At some point the devil on Leah’s shoulder starts whispering in her ear and she decides if she spreads a dirty rumor about another girl, she might stand a chance. She tells Ben that Lauren B. isn’t who he thinks she is. Uh, what? Lauren B. might be boring and have a big forehead and a small face, but she seems pretty normal. Ben asks Lauren B. about it and she cries, then asks who would do it and the girls do some detective work (i.e. simple process of elimination) to determine Leah was the culprit. Leah talks to Ben another time in his room with some wine which could have saved her but instead she talks more shit and gets sent home. Good job Ben. But I’ll miss her eyebrows.
BREAK.
Two girls have gone home before even a mention of a rose ceremony. This episode is crazy! These girls are dropping like flies!
THE COCKTAIL PARTY IS CANCELED.
The girls are upset.
Jojo is worried. I don’t understand why. Since she’s going to win.
He saves Lauren B. til the last rose for dramatic build-up but why would he send her home when there’s absolutely no evidence to support Leah’s claims?
Going home is the kindergarten teacher who is adorable and goofy but got friend zoned because she’s too normal and fun. Or something.
She was very cool and cute but I couldn’t see her with Ben for some reason.
PREDICTIONS
So who is left?
Caila, Becca, Emily, Jojo, Amanda… wait, that’s it???
Oh my god.
I think Emily will go home next week, Amanda the week after, and the remaining girls will be final 3.
I don’t love Becca though to be honest.
Well, I don’t know, I don’t love anyone but Jojo.
Super dramatic season, to be continued!
14 SWEET THINGS TO DO FOR YOUR SWEET THANG
2/02/2016
HAPPY FEBRUARY!
Valentine’s Day is just 14 short days away, so I’ve put together a list of how to spoil your love every single day leading up to this incredibly commercially driven holiday!
1. Let them sleep in.
My boyfriend and I work slightly different hours and I leave around 4:45AM (That’s right!). Usually I bumble around in the morning generally aggravating him in every way – slamming the dresser drawers opened and closed, entering and exiting the room more times than necessary, and just basically making an unadulterated racket before anyone who knows better would even think about being awake. TODAY, make that all change. Set your clothes out in the morning, make a nice neat pile of everything you need to take with you on your way out, and kiss your sleeping boyfriend goodbye like the little sweet prince that he is.
2. Write a sweet note on your way out.
Today, take your morning treatment to the next level by leaving a post it note right on his forehead. Suggestions for what to write include:
“Sweet dreams, babe”
“xoxo, Gossip Girl” and
“Please don’t forget to brush your teeth”
He will appreciate it!!!!!!
3. Let them watch whatever they want on TV tonight.
I can’t begin to explain how strange it is having a boyfriend who lives for Gossip Girl, more so than I live for most TV shows, but tonight, give him the remote and (try not to) don’t complain a peep.
4. Organize the sock drawer.
Sharing a room with someone you’re dating is even worse than sharing a room with a regular roommate because your significant other often thinks they can toss all of their stuff with all of your stuff, making something of a mixed salad out of all the stuff. It’s REALLY UNCOOL. Show your sweetie what boundaries in a healthy relationship look like by buying a cheap dresser organizer and mark your territory as such. Cleanliness is close to holiness which is next to a happy relationship!
5. Shower together.
Not to get sexy, not even to save money. Shower together to scrub your sweetie’s back down with soap and a loofie. Because lezbereal, nobody can really wash their back by themself and again, cleanliness is close to holiness. And that is true love.
6. Be their personal assistant.
(Not like this is different from any other day, but). Does your significant other have a dentist appointment, an important meeting at work, a haircut, and a date night planned with you for later this week? If they’re anything like my boyfriend, they’re a scattered mess and there’s no way they’re going to remember all of these responsibilities on their own. Program alarms for the upcoming week into their phone while they’re sleeping so you won’t be getting a text at noon on Wednesday, five minutes before they’re supposed to be at a special work lunch asking, “Want to go to Buffalo Wild Wings with me during our lunch break?” You got their back.
7. Walk the dog together.
Because nothing says romance like bending down in the dirt to pick up dog shit.
8. Make a photo collage on Instagram of all your cutest moments.
Use only the most flattering filters and make sure everyone who follows you on Instagram can’t help but scroll past it and think to themselves ~ #goals ~
9. Bring them flowers and chocolate to work, a week before Valentine’s Day to make sure all their coworkers know that you’re in a better relationship than all of them and you’re really on top of your game. Your significant other is so lucky to have you and everyone is going to know it!
10. Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. It’s time to really up the ante. While your sweetie is dreaming of Slim Jims and video games, completely cover their car in all of the reasons you love and adore them, written on thousands of pink Post-It notes! They will love this pre-work, morning surprise!
11. Bake a four layer cake and put a framed photo of the two of you love birds INSIDE OF IT. Now that’s innovation.
12. Nothing says love like a choreographed song and dance routine. If you can get some back-up dancers/singers, the more the merrier! Imagine your lovers adorable surprised face as they leave their workplace and head to their car, only to be bombared by a swirling, twirling, mass of sequined performers crooning their adorations with YOU smack in the middle of a baton-twirling, ribbon-dancing, kick-lining conga line. Just imagine their face!
13. Have a life sized stuffed animal delivered to your house that can spoon your honey if you ever can’t.
14. TODAY IS THE DAY. Since you have spoiled your sweetie to pieces the past few days, today go for simplicity. Breakfast in bed, back massage, and a message of your love spelled out in M&Ms will do just the trick. Or just try not to fart under the covers and then trap them under there with the gas. THAT’S TRUE LOVE PEOPLE.
Hope you got some helpful tips for making your love feel spoiled, special, and somewhat disgruntled this Valentine’s Day season!
Realistic February Goals
2/01/2016
I’m not TOO into astrology, but I have to tell you, I read my yearly horoscope this morning and shit was SPOT ON.
Financial troubles on the horizons? Well, my car didn’t start again this morning, so I’d say yupp!
A month-long slump in January? Definitely.
September is going to be about reaching towards my long-term goals? Hello grad school applications!
I guess Mercury is finally out of retrograde, meaning that I’ll be feeling more productive, happier, and a lot less like my whole world is falling to pieces. According to my horoscope, 2016 is the year I will be “giving structure to my dreams”.
So to kick February off on the right side of the bed, here is a list of my small-ish February goals:
1. Buy a vehicle. This is ESSENTIAL.
2. Create a realistic and maintainable budget on paper/in excel format so that I can hold myself accountable to every penny I spend.
3. Read my three new books; The Body Book by Cameron Diaz, Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty, and You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life by Jen Sincero.
4. Do something cute, hand-made, and special for my sweetie for Valentine’s Day.
5. Get a move on in this blog – set it up on Bloglovin’, figure out what the heck an RSS feed is, try to get comments enabled and a newsletter – generally a giant list of things I have absolutely no idea how to do. (FYI: This blog is never going to have one of those fancy headers called “Blog Resources” like most successful blogs do because I don’t know the difference between CSS and SEO… so there’s that).
6. In the theme of Valentine’s Day pampering, take care of MYSELF more. Deep condition my hair, use the thickest body butter, paint my nails and massage oil into my cuticles… all of this is ideal and wonderful but I often have no idea how picture-perfect, put together girls have the TIME to rub all of these cremes and oils into their hair and body. This month I’m going to try to figure that out!
7. Pass Spinning certification and get assigned at least one Spin class to teach at the gym I work at!
Goals are great, they hold you accountable and if you verbalize them or write them down, they make you feel guilty if you don’t complete them!
WEEKEND WRAPAROUND
1/18/2016
Saturday morning yoga class, setting the intention of letting go.
I love when my boyfriend brings me random treats :) Apparently this has minerals in it that are really good for you and provides extra hydration! Which I'm obviously all about. The color definitely weirded me out but it tastes just like regular water!
We also went to my boyfriend's dog's birthday party... yes you heard that correctly. Birthday present and cake included.
We built this bookcase with our OWN TWO HANDS.
And let me tell you, it was stressful.
But just look at those results.
Look at those fake plastic plants from Target.
In love.
In love.
More fake plastic plants.
#aesthetic.
And last but not least, this beautiful tapestry that we got in Newport, RI for only 20 bucks!
I had a wonderful weekend of recharging, redecorating, and good energy.
ART THERAPY
1/14/2016
I don't know what was wrong with me yesterday but I was having an epic existential meltdown. Maybe I was over tired. Maybe I was over worked (I had to stay after work an extra half hour because I'm an overachieving employee...). I don't know but yesterday when my boyfriend came home from work he found me sitting on the floor of the living, pouting, and whining about how life is so short and I'm not going to be able to accomplish everything I want to do.
~ PAUSE ~
I try as hard as I can to flood my life with optimism and positive thinking. I don't know what is getting into me, but I think it might be the bitter cold yesterday and the dread of the next few months of winter and class that is getting under my skin. I need to find a way to address this and deal with it ASAP.
~ UNPAUSE ~
So my boyfriend and mother were obviously a little bit worried about me as I sat there stewing in my puddle of self pity and helplessness.
I have three adult coloring books and got a case of art supplies for my birthday so my boyfriend went and got those and we started coloring. I wasn't really interested in the coloring books actually; they're supposed to be zen inducing but sometimes they honestly stress me out. I'm someone who loves to finish something once I start it and all of those intricate details make it impossible to finish a single picture in one go. So I got some white printer paper and starting drawing and smudging on those with a set of colorful pastels.
And within about 45 minutes, I felt so much more calmmmmmm.
My phone was in the other room charging so I actually didn't check it once while we were getting artsy in the kitchen. So this is my advice:
UNPLUG & CREATE.
I can't tell you how wonderful it felt for 45 solid minutes to not be checking my phone and to be spending quality time (albeit silent, since I was so focused on what I was doing) to sit and create something in the space of two other humans whom I love. I can't tell you the last time I just drew pictures and colored outside of the lines.
